A new study has discovered that elderly people are more likely to see the glass as half full than half empty.

Scientists demonstrated 20 young adults, aged from 19 to 22, a set of positive, neutral and negative pictures like an ice-cream, an electric discharge and a dead animal, correspondingly. Another group that included 20 older adults, aged from 56 to 81, was demonstrated the same set of pictures.

During this experiment their brain activity has been recorded by electrodes on the participants’ head. The degree by which brain activity increased ascertained how accessible each individual was to negative information.

This study has shown that older adults were less accessible to the disagreeable pictures. Elderly people are less likely to be depressed and less affected by negative or disagreeable information.

Also it has been proved that people are hard-wired to pay more attention to negative information. This tendency increases as one ages. It is incomprehensible why elderly people are more likely to see the world through rose-colored glasses. It might have a deal with the experiences they obtained or the biological changes that occur as they age.

Many studies reported that optimists live longer. Make your conclusions.
